If you have Fallout 3 with all DLCs (if you don’t, what are you waiting for?), definitely consider adding this mod. Great mod to install and avoid uncomfortable and annoying crashes in the middle of important missions. That’s where this mod comes into play and helps with game performances. However, the versatility of Fallout is on display here since the game was made in a different engine. Just look at the likes of GTA IV, which is probably the worst ported game in history. Old games being ported to other platforms and software, makes games go “stuttery”. With inconsistencies come performance issues. Definitely, a mod that saved a lot of nerves. Recently, modders of the original mod decided to update the mod called Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 patch and made happy a lot of Fallout 3 fans. Fans and modders found a way to remove these annoying bugs and made Unofficial Fallout 3 patch that after some time got outdated. To be completely honest, Fallout 3 is full of bugs and that is especially expressed in the new versions of the game available on Steam and GOG platforms. Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 patch Link to mod.Īs already mentioned, Fallout 3 was released in 2008, so it is not unusual for a game to be full of inconsistencies. It makes the game more inclusive and playable. That’s why the FWE mod is a must-install mod if you want to get back into Fallout 3. They had a fair share of problems and ambiguities that only grew more with the passing years. But that doesn’t mean that games were flawless. Gamebryo engine is used in probably the most successful games in the Fallout franchise – Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. FWE improves challenge, immersion, and depth of gameplay while emphasizing balance, role play, and more. Of course, we need to start with the mod that overhauled the whole Fallout 3 game. Influenced earlier in the singer’s career by nostalgic carols of her native Venezuelan farmers, Arca involves similar melodic techniques to expresses vocally the ghostly swamp-dwelling of uncanny Pagan Slavs of Brandenburg. Possibilities of virtual world-building and storytelling within Berl-Berl, inspired by cosmologies of ancient Slavic paganism and environmental storytelling of nonlinear videogames, find their momentum in the analogue medium of Arca’s singing. Media technologies have become in Steensen’s art installation a material form of these trans-human and co-species involvements. With this approach, the only way to get to know anything about nonhumans is to initiate mutualistic actions of humans with nonhumans. Perhaps nonhuman life forms can be understood by humans only through their attempts to perform together with nonhumans. Berl-Berl, Jakob Kudsk Steensen, Halle am Berghain (2021) © Timo Ohler Thus, understanding vegetation through a song, macro photogrammetric 3D simulation of Spreewald’s fauna and flora, achieved with hundreds of photographs of each piece of mud or fungus provided by Berlin’s Museum fur Naturkunde, is narrated by the haunting voice of Arca, merged with spatial sound design by Matt McCorkle and local amphibians.īerl-Berl (2021). Intriguingly, Steensen also brings to life the extinct human cultures through features of their oral traditions of swamp songs, which are said (according to the research by Sabina Asmus, who interviewed some of the very few descendants of Sorbian Slavic tribes) to help to navigate the natural landscape through storytelling. Unearthing the story of Berlin’s origin from Slavic swamp dwellings, Steensen attempts not only to re-animate the swamp as hypercomplex ecology of nonhuman life and expose its crucial importance for providing ancient, diverse habitats as well as clean water within central European environments – importance comparable to rainforests or coral reefs in tropical areas. It reconstructs unique cultural imagination erased in the process of historical extermination of Slavic Pagans by Germanic Christians between rivers Elbe (Laba) and Odra (Oder), a founding event of what is now the capital city of Germany. This trans-cultural etymology was researched extensively by the specialist on swamp and technology, Dr Dane Sutherland (operating via excellent mixed reality IG: Most Dismal Swamp), who supported the concept of Berl-Berl with his background report ‘View from the Swamp’. It references the early mediaeval Slavic settlements in the wetlands by river Spree (particularly Pankow and Kopenick), which during the late Middle Ages were transformed into Germanic town Berlin. In the exhibition title Berl-Berl, Berl is an old Slavic word for ‘swamp’. According to Steensen’s approach, technology allows ecological insight and flourishing rather than domination over nature. Instead, perceiving simulations as extensions of ecosystems, he engages with advanced technology as a sophisticated process of re-connection to base materialities of life. Employing state of art simulation tools from video games industry, such as Unreal game engine and AI algorithms that assist the evolution of vegetative biomorphs or animation of light, Steensen is not interested in the spectacle of high-tech in itself. Infamous for its techno/fetish club nights, Berghain has been transformed by Jakob Kudsk Steensen on the 10th of June into a multi-channel projection space of digital 3D swamp, which reflects its glistening image on the synthetic floor surfaces and interlaces with rough concrete textures of the interior. It’s about as good as you can hope to get in the $30 range, and besides, at those prices, you’re not going to feel that put out if you download it and for some reason decide you hate it. There’s honestly not that much to complain about when it comes to this app. Plug your computer into pretty much any external MIDI device you can find, and you’ll be good to go. It also hooks up super easily with hardware. You get a whole range of performance templates to mix and tweak, and you can also just scroll through the Patch Library to find a sound you want to rework into something completely amazing. There’s a lot you’ll be able to figure out right off the bat though. It might take you a little while to figure out everything you’re able to do since there are so many features. Now, obviously there’s always going to be something of a learning curve with software that has as many capabilities as this, but that’s not really much of a complaint. Guitarist? This software lets you seamlessly transition between patches, trailing off naturally and coming back in with a totally different sound.Īpple doesn’t seem to be able to let a product slip out of their hands without first making it beautiful. Vocalist? Control the effects you add to your performance with the foot pedals, so you never even have to stop singing. Other instruments come with just as many options. You can set up chord triggers so that pressing a single note will send out an entire complex chord, or bring out the authentic sounds of everything from an organ to an electric piano. Love the keyboard? The Arpeggiator lets you bring out more sounds than are even possible with your own two hands. This app is also really good at letting you play around as much as you like with your performance without ever really having to think too much about it. This makes this kind of stuff available for folks who don’t want to have to deal with hyper-specialized software. There’s also a presets section, along with a Dub Machine that lets you produce beats without a clunky configuration process. You can tune and adjust these, just like you would with real drums. The Drum Kit Designer, for instance, gives you the ability to swap out pieces of a traditional drum set with instruments from all over the world. There are also a ton of more specialized tools. You can process vocals, mix and loop tracks, or add in as many backing tracks as you like to give yourself a sound unlike any other today. Everything about this software is incredibly flexible. Play around with Retro Synth to throw in some 70s- and 80s-style synth sounds, or create new ones with Alchemy. With 80+ synthetic instruments to play around with, 1,800 patches, and 4,600 pre-recorded loops, there’s really no limit to the how much this app will let you experiment with sound. Although you might have a bit of a learning curve if you’re just starting out, this software’s price makes for an easily worthwhile investment. The articles collected for this work throw a pronounced spotlight on the requirements and consequences of this tension-filled process into the 19th century. In the mask, so the thesis of this book argues, the arts come to know themselves. Even those like Michel de Montaigne and the moralists of the 17th century, who abstained from courtly life, used the mask to formulate criticisms of the age of bourgeois enlightenment on a broad basis. This was true not only in the aristocratic courts but the art of the mask and disguise reached into all other social levels with great effect and became a pivotal element for a critical engagement with the courtly-absolutist society. Literature, theater, music, and the pictorial arts reflected the mode of feint or as if, which was acted out playfully, and at the same time powerfully, in the mask and therein acknowledged the power of its art and, in the moral sense, as the instrument for disguise, deceit, and lies. In the beginning of the 16th century a theory of uomo universlae (the universal man) was formulated and an aesthetic of the (beautiful) appearance was implemented in political and social practices, which, is visible in the social reality through the wide-ranging culture of the mask, masquerade, and pretense. English summary: The social-role playing of courtly culture in the early modern period was based on the art of the mask. Please consider bringing your own glasses. Word jumble enthusiasts will enjoy TextTwist 2, and Letter Mania and Lightning modes both add clever, quicker, and fun tweaks to the game that are well worth the low price of admission. We could’ve talked for hours, explaining where you can use the reword tool. Any complaints about TextTwist 2, however, feel pretty minor to me, after enduring the pervasive lousiness that characterized the first iPhone version. It’s even easier to recognize that “YBLDOU” makes “DOUBLY” the second time you see it. Occasionally, I was presented with exactly the same set of letters in one game-once, just two rounds apart. While TextTwist 2 is a major improvement over TextTwist Turbo, it does include some faults of its own. Your game progress is saved, so you can always continue building on your high score later if you get interrupted. It’s essentially a brief round of the regular timed version of the game-I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just play the regular version instead. It’s considerably tougher than Letter Mania, but certainly fun in its own right.ĭaily Word mode, on the other hand, is a bit dopey: You’re presented with that day’s mix of letters, and need to find all the words within it. Instead of finding all the words a batch of six letters can make, you need only to identify the full word that those letters can assemble. Lightning mode requires you to solve a series of longer words. The fast pace of the game makes it perfect for playing in quick bursts. You need to find enough words whose total combined length meets a preset target, in a finite amount of time. In Letter Mania, you only need to find one word with each set of tiles the letters you use are replaced with more. Mercifully, it seems like someone at RealArcade understood the flimsy offerings of the original game TextTwist 2 sports several other game modes that add interesting twists (ha!) to the game’s original conceit. It’s annoying, but doesn’t render the game unplayable. When the letters in a given round can spell many words-which happens with some frequency-you’re forced to scroll horizontally to review all the words you’ve already submitted. While the timer’s return is welcomed, I still feel the iPhone’s screen isn’t perfectly suited to the game’s presentation. If you prefer your text games without a race against the clock, though, you can always choose the untimed mode instead. The timer adds a necessary sense of pressure and challenge to the game, and I heartily welcome its return. While TextTwist Turbo for iPhone lacked a two-minute timer, this sequel restores the original Web game’s challenging time constraints. At its core, TextTwist 2 is a jumble game: You’re presented with a batch of letters, and need to find all the words that those letters can form. The wide range of options that are available may make it difficult for one to make the right choice due to the many options available. New Orleans was perfect because it "checked off all those boxes," Blackman said. "A city that had a lot of history to it, but also felt very different from Empire Bay." "We knew we needed a city that could be treated as a main character we wanted a city that was iconic," he said. Speaking to GameSpot, Blackman added that the team ultimately went with a New Orleans-inspired location as Mafia III's setting (it's called New Bordeaux in the game) because it matched up nicely with what the studio hoped to achieve. "Any of our early ideas would have likely yielded a solid hard-boiled crime drama with compelling gameplay, but we didn't feel that any of the combinations were quite right," Blackman said. Ideas for a main character included a "fixer" (someone who could handle any mafia problem), a crooked police officer and a low-level mobster who got in way over his head. Another idea would have told a story across the entirety of the '60s. Additionally, the team considered having the game start in 1952, not long after the events of Mafia II. Hangar 13 also thought about "a number of smaller locales rather than a single, more expansive city," Blackman said.
